Large display. Long battery life. My only criticism is that the CTs are massive. Maybe an option for toroid CTs that can be slipped over the wires and installed by electricians. Very useful product and it will probably pay for itself in six months. I worked for electric utilities most of my life. I retired from the U.S. Dept. of Energy in 2007. I think of myself as being energy aware. That said; I have found that my house has over 500 watts of uncontrolled energy usage. People are usually aware that hot water heaters and refrigerators are uncontrolled energy users and they cycle 'on and off'. My CentoMeter told me that I have a massive amount of electricity being used all day. What surprised me was the amount of energy used by 'wall warts' and remote controlled appliances. My home entertainment center uses 150 watts twenty four hours of every day, when it is turned off. A half dozen battery chargers for cell phones, iPods, etc add up in a hurry too. I will get some switched power strips to control these. I was unaware of the total usage of all these devices until I got my CentoMeter.

0 0 0 I spent 2000-2006 sailing around the world. On board my boat, everything runs off batteries and obviously power consumption while on passage or at anchor is critical. My boat, like many others, was equipped with a digital power monitor that could tell me at a glance how many amps were being used, what the remaining battery capacity was and so on.

I always wonderred why homes did not have the same capability so when I moved back on land, I did a little research and purchased a Cent-a-Meter. It's brilliant. It more than duplicates the functionality on my boat.

When you know at a glance how much power your home is drawing, it changes your behaviour. You learn what is normal and abnormal energy usage. You can tell when lights have been left on accidentially (my son's closet is a common culpret) or how much power your fridge draws. But more than that, it helps you to seek out and find those phantom loads you didn't even know about that are costing you every month like that VCR in the spare bedroom or that phone charger you left plugged in.

A few weeks ago, I receved a Home Energy Report from Puget Sound Energy. I'm using 66% less energy than my so-called "effecient neighbors" and saved $1301 last year in electricity relative to the previous year. Most of this I attribute to the Cent-A-Meter. Once you know what you are using, it's easy to turn stuff off.

Does what it says it does Not able to switch between English and Metric units OK Should be powered off house power. Prefer wire line communications to broadcast.
