The unit was well packed and after opening, found that the instructions for setup were easy to follow and straightforward. Within about twenty minutes I had it all hooked up and running and monitoring my power usage. I took the unit to my sink and began to wash dishes and was amazed at how much it cost to run the water-heater to do that. Now I wear gloves and wash in cold water and save that money. Also, I was amazed at how much it costs to run the furnace. This unit has helped me to be more conscience of my power usage. I do believe you will find it to be so also;.

The Good
Shows you your power usage in kilowatts/money spent in semi real time (updates every 30 seconds. Makes it easier to figure out what's killing your electric bill.
The Bad
1. Constantly loses connection with the transmitter.
2. Your stuck using batteries that last about 1 billing cycle (30 days) in the receiver. No external DC power jack to plug an AC adapter into.
The Bottom Line
It needs improvements but when it works its very useful.
Full Review
I bought the power cost monitor to help me figure out why my electric bill was so high.
When I first received the PCM is was a little frustrating getting through the initial setup but not impossible. It seemed to work great for about 6 hours, then started reading .3 kilowatts constantly. I reset the unit and all was well for about 4 hours then it started doing the same thing. Over and over it would stop receiving a signal from the transmitter. I tried moving the receiver to every corner of my house with the same results. Works fine for a few hours then starts showing readings I know are wrong. I tried distances from 10 feet to 80 feet with the same outcome. Why they didn't give it 2.4 Ghz capability to be able to hook through a wireless router is beyond me. The no AC jack is also kind of annoying and I can't think of any good reason other than cost of manufacturing to not include one.
for a $120+ bucks I expect this thing to work flawless. Problem is I'm only getting about $40 bucks worth of performance out of.
To make this thing perfect:
1. 2.4 ghz connectivity with the ability to interface a PC with it.
2. DC power jack.
3. needs to be under $100

I used the monitor on the mechanical utility meter at my Church. Worked great and allowed us at the Church to look for ways to save power.
The Bad
I really bought the monitor to use at my house. I was not able to sucessfully attach it to the optical utility meter. I struggled with this for a couple of hours. I had the same experience at a neighbor's house.
The Bottom Line
Please see what you can do to improve this product so it works with optical utility meters. I did not return it because it worked so well with the mechanical meter at my Church.

I would like to see this device to have some additional readings.
Amp clamps that clamp onto load wires inside the electrical panel. These should communicate to the display by infared. This would enable the customer to see power useage on each appliance at one location insted of having the little individual readouts in different locations. Also the infared signal needs to be heavily boosted in the home..... Have a Great Day.

Over the last 8 months we've used this device to measure our whole house energy consumption as we have switched out an old refrigerator, oven, remodeled our kitchen and put in an induction stove top. We have found it to be a valuable tool to lower our energy costs and to search for the hidden power transformers. Soon we hope to put in several solar panels and we are using a years worth of observations into scaling our solar system needs. We highly recommend this device and the help the PowermeterStore provided. Good luck on your energy conservation efforts.

The product was easy to install and sync. I purchased two. One was installed on a conventional meter without difficulty. The other was installed on a digital meter and the readings were not as accurate as on the conventional house meter.
The Bad
The transmission frequency conflicted with an outdoor wireless weather transmitter. The meter would not sync until the weather device was disabled.
The Bottom Line
Excellent product. With the installation of the power meter, the overall power usage during the summer months with air conditioning was reduced by 50%. The savings more than paid for the power meters.

I would recommend the power meter for all home owners since it reflects the instantaneous power usage, overall power usage and the cost. Hopefully, these types of monitors will become mandatory for all home owners.

I purchased two of these devices. Both worked the same way. The Good
Product looks great
The Bad
It has a tough time with batteries and operating through stucco
The Bottom Line
When the unit operates for a couple of days, the information is terrific. It just needs to run longer.
Full Review
I was very excited to find the product and carefully installed it per the instructions upon receipt. I find that it's overall measurement of power to be fairly granular since it is counting revolutions on the official power company meter. Even with that limitation the meter does seem to accurately measure the power being used in the house. I verified its measurement using the simple timing method as well as using a couple of different plug-in devices.
My experience with batteries is that they seem to last about two days maximum in the outside unit. If the later models have solved the battery drain problem, I would seriously consider trying the product again.

I am completely satisfied with my Power Cost Monitor. It accurately monitors our power usage. I prefer the $ readings as it more accurately reflects what we are using. I have had the meter for over a year and have not yet had any problems and have not even had to change the batteries. The only minor complaint I might have is it is very touchy to get the exterior sensor accurately mounted on the power meter. I use it everyday and have been successful at lowering our usage by 15% just by paying attention to what we are using and when.

We are are family of 5 (kids 9, 7, and 3) that lives in VT where it can be quite cold and dark in the winter.
Our electric bills started climbing to about $200-$250 a month. We heat the playroom in the basement with electric heat but use it seldomly, I had a new plasma TV and related equipment, we leave a pole-light on out front every night (efficiency bulb) - - we had no idea which - if any - of these items was the culpret.
The Powercost monitor was suprisingly easy to setup. Once setup whenever we pass it and it's high (say $.60 or higher), we look around the house and to determine the cause. Thru some time and some testing, we've determined that a few inefficent appliances are the main cause of our high bills. Our Dishwasher in particular is VERY costly, although it was energy-star rated, it was done so (we discovered) with all the options and features turned off. When you turn on the hot rinse, hot dry, etc - the cost skyrockets. These features need to be on to get a load of dishes clean, we run about 2 loads a day thru it...sorry, I digress...
The powercost monitor made our efficency efforts realtime, I don't really know how else to put it...we can try things and trial/error on a minute-to-minute basis if we care to, we don't need to wait for our once a month bill to see if our attempts bore fruit.
I also realized that at night, while everyone's in bed and everythings off, we were drawing $.08 per hr or $60 month! so many items in the house just suck power whenever they are plugged in while they're powered on or not.
This is a good product I would buy again, just making you aware of your useage is worth the price alone.

This is a good product for monitoring overall electric usage. The almost real-time reading permits identification of how much energy appliances and devices are using as they are turned on and off. We have reduced our usage (and cost) almost 15% this year. This product is good for dealing with the 'gross offenders' where there is a big benefit in reducing usage. A different product is needed to monitor low-usage (< 100W) devices.
